'Dyslexia Behind Bars' - A Pioneering Project

29/5/2013

Two interesting statistics: 10% of the general UK population has dyslexia.  Around 50% of the prison population has dyslexia.  Hmm!

In this enlightening report 'Dyslexia Behind Bars', Jackie Hewitt-Main talks about her very successful (and low cost), Dyslexia and Mentoring project which took place at Chelmsford Prison in 2008.

Diagnosed as severely dyslexic herself at age 40, Jackie shows how her project used peer-mentoring and multi-sensory learning methods to improve learning, leading to drastically reduced re-offending rates and changing lives.  Truly inspirational!  We'd like to see all prisons adopting this project!
